Rental platform Airbnb said it was rolling out new safeguards to stop people using it for NYE house parties.

Party goers, consider yourself savvy.

Rental platform Airbnb has implemented new anti-party rules that will make it harder for people to rent homes in San Antonio through its app to host New Year’s Eve parties.

Customers without a history of positive reviews on its platform will not be able to make one-night reservations for entire homes. Additionally, the company reports some two- and three-night rentals made by customers without positive reviews, including last-minute rentals.

“We are communicating this initiative publicly to help support our hosts in the South African region and send a message to future revelers that we will not tolerate this type of behavior on our platform,” the Airbnb spokesperson said. , Ben Breit, in an emailed statement.

Those with a track record of positive reviews will not be affected by the new safeguards, Breit added.

Airbnb piloted a similar initiative last New Year’s Eve. His “anti-party defenses” deterred more than 200 people from booking homes in San Antonio last year, he estimates. He also blocked more than 50 would-be revelers in nearby Fredericksburg.
