Thanksgiving is complicated. On the one hand, there’s plenty of great food and an excuse to party. On the other hand, there are the ill effects of colonialism and all the stress of spending (or not spending) time with family. But whether you’re looking to add something to the holiday or completely replace it, Friendsgiving, the cool little sister to the holiday with a whole lot less baggage, is a great option. And an even better option is to make it a weekend, so you and your friends can spend a few days hanging out, cooking, and feasting before you have to head back to work.

If you’re looking for a house to rent for a getaway with friends, you can’t settle for an old vacation home. You’ll need well-equipped kitchens with plenty of counter space and quality appliances, and dining tables that are spacious enough to accommodate the whole crew. Any house you rent should also have plenty of comfortable bedrooms for everyone to sleep in after their turkey dinner. And because the weekend is supposed to be awesome, the rental should also be cute, comfortable and properly equipped to foster quality downtime – we’re talking indoor and outdoor fire pits, conversation nooks, society and a pretty environment where you can walk, canoe or maybe even ski. And yes, you’ll also want to make sure there’s a TV, because inevitably at least one member of your party will want to watch the game.

Don’t know what to rent? We have you. We’ve found a bunch of fantastic vacation homes that would be perfect for your Friendsgiving getaway — and you can easily book them on Airbnb or VRBO.
